Hi everyone, Dances from December 4, 2004, at the Salvation Army Gym, 7-10 PM. *Cris brought a, Ipod, to check out. Very nice! 1 Barsgeren Yeghanag "Persian Melody" -Cris taught, Learned from Tineke van Geel. Beginning dances, with brief descriptions as memory jogs: 2 Setnja -Serbia -Line dance. Formal or escort hand hold, that is, L hand is on hip, person behind holds onto inside of elbow with R hand, their L hand on hip...etc. When music speeds up drop to "V" hand hold, the walk turns to a skip. The dance moves to the R. The rhythem is slow, slow, quick, quick, quick. (SSQQQ) Each beat matches a step: Walk RLRLR. Piviot on R to back up LR (SS), then forward LRL(QQQ). On the last L you are headed to begin the dance again. 3 Ersko Kolo -Serbia -Open circle. Hands held down in "V" position. Cecelia calls this the, "picket fence dance." The 1st part: Do 15 side behinds -step R, step L behind- the last step (the 16th) stamp L next to R. Repeat, this time moving to the L, with opposite foot work. The 2nd part: Quick walk diagonally to the R, RLR, (hop on R); back up LRL (hop on L); Same steps this time into and out of center. Repeat part 2, then start the dance from the beginning. 4 An Dro -France\Brittany -Pinky hold, arms in "W" position, Closed Circle, moves slowly to the left -CW, because of pie. Slices of pie, small slices. (I must be getting hungary...:) OK. Start by moving diag L. Step L, bring R to L, step L and pivot on L. (now to cut out the other side of the pie.) Back out diag. stepping back on R, bring L to R, step back R. Repeat Over and over until the end. The arms are moving in time with your legs. As you go in, everyones arms are making a circle - CW, one and a half times. Backing out the circle is CCW. The way we do it is half speed, it's quite a workout up to speed! 5 Jiana -Transylvania, Romanian -Back basket hold, long introduction, begin with singing, R foot in center rock back and forth moving to the left. Happy, bouncy -this is a love song. Then two side steps to R. Rpt opp, two side steps to R, stomp R 4x, Grapevine: R in cross L, R out behind L, Rpt. Stomp L once, Buzz step: keep R in center push with L -look up and lean back...be happy. 6 Srbijanka -Serbia -Russ taught -Hands held down at sides. Walking in line. Starting with R foot, walk 2 steps. Turn slightly, (like above) touch L to R foot, then step L with L foot, touch R to L foot. Continue this way until you hear the change in the music, then you reverse and using the same steps travel in the opposite direction. The leader spirals the line into the center of the circle, or out. 7 Bitola -Macedonia (lesnoto) 8 Kendime -Turkey -Pinky hold. Arms up in "W" position. Walking CCW in line, starting with R foot, walk 4 steps; Turn slightly, (like you were facing toward the center if we were dancing in a circle but we're not, this is a "line" dance.) Step R ft to side. -You could think this as the 5th step because the walking to the R ends, now you are facing center; to- touch L to R then step L ft to side, slightly toward center; touch R to L calf, bending L knee and body back. Repeat dance until the music ends. 9 Makedonka -Macedonia -Russ taught 10 Trugnala Rumjana -Bulgaria -Arms up, "W" position (bent at elbow) A slow grapevine, walk in line, R L. Step to the side with the R, turning to face "center," step behind your R foot with your L foot. Step to the side with your R foot and lift your L foot bending at the knee. (like a string was pulling at your knee, below your knee is relaxed) Foot parallel to the floor. Put your L foot back down, spaced about your shoulder width. Lift your R foot as previously described. That's the dance. Repeat over and over. A very relaxing dance.
