Steam and Stomp
International Folkdance At Boulder Hot Springs
February 28 And 29, 2004
The 2004 Steam and Stomp was another rousing success! We danced to songs new and old, learned all day and danced all evening (and as usual, certain parties continued well into the early morning), then recovered in the hot mineral waters so we could dance some more.
The dances taught at this year's Saturday session were:
- Seta - line dance from Serbia
presented by Sally Jenkins (Tulsa) - Devoiko Mari Hubava - Pravo from Bulgaria
presented by Russ Conn (Kalispell) - Well Hall - English country dance
presented by Mitchell Frey (Moscow) - Sandansko Horo - line dance from Bulgaria
presented by Bill Bucher (Helena) - Merenge - couple/group dance from Dominican Republic
presented by Julie Tabler (Helena) - Tocul - couple/circle dance from Romania
presented by Sally Jenkins (Tulsa) - Birchot Havdalah - Modern Israeli line dance
presented by Cris Jones (Kalispell)
At the Saturday night party, we were once again treated to live music by an impromptu band headed by Hallie Rugheimer on accordion, with Susan Hinkins on pennywhistle, Eva Maxwell on piano, and Ruth Singer and Sonja Chessin on flute. Their tunes included these favorites:
- Ersko Kolo (Serbia)
- Ajde Jano (Serbia)
- Ma Na'avu (Israel)
- Bela Rada (Serbia)
- Ciuleandra (Romania)
- Erev Ba (Israel)
- Never On Sunday (Greece)
- Finska Valsen (Finnish Waltz)
We look forward to seeing everybody next year!
